NEWSLETTER 04 APRIL 2025

Todd_Nichole.jpg

Although we have one more week left of school, this is the last newsletter for this term.  I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Easter and holiday break.  I will be taking some Long Service Leave for 3 weeks at the start of next term and travelling through the middle of Australia to Uluru and back.  Ms Danee Gannon will take over the role of Principal in my absence.

School Association

Our School Association Annual General Meeting was held this week, followed by the first general meeting of the School Association Executive Committee for 2025.  The parent representatives on the School Association Executive Committee this year are: Robyn Smith (Chairperson), Asha West (Vice-Chairperson), Linda Petersen (Secretary), Genevieve Payne and Melissa Berwick.  Teaching staff representatives are: Heather Parker, Danee Gannon and myself.  I would like to thank all our members for giving up their time to help make decisions that guide the direction of the school.

School Sporting Teams

Many of our school sporting teams have started already such as basketball or will start very soon such as soccer which starts tomorrow.  We are very proud to have our students playing in local school sports rosters and wish you all the very best, play fairly, be respectful to all and have lots of fun!

School Reminders

  • Hats are not required to be worn in term 2 or 3. This allows the sun to provide students with vitamin D.
  • School carparks are for staff to park in, school staff and support staff such as social workers etc.
  • Any Court Orders or Police Family Violence Orders that apply to our students need to be provided to the school as we are not made aware of this by any other means.
  • School opens at 8:40, staff start duty at this time. Please do not drop off students before this time as they are unsupervised.

Ms Nichole Todd

Support for a Changing Places Facility – Community Survey

Council is exploring the need for a Changing Places facility in Devonport. Changing Places allow people with high support needs who are not adequately supported by standard accessible toilets to fully participate in the community.

Changing Places facilities provide:

  • a height-adjustable adult-sized change table
  • a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system
  • a peninsula toilet
  • circulation spaces for additional people
  • an automatic door and a privacy screen

Your feedback will help demonstrate community support and inform planning efforts.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes to fill out and closes Thursday, 17 April 2025.  Either click on the link below or scan the QR code to participate.

Students are invited to dress up as their
favourite singer,
or wear casual clothes
for this fundraiser.

We ask that students participating bring
a gold coin to school to donate.

GROWTH

This fortnight we have the School Value of GROWTH - aspiring to learn, and improving even when it is tough.  As our focus we discuss in individual class groups and across the school as a whole, both students and staff.

Each fortnight this Term we will let you know what our focus is, you may wish to discuss this with your child/ren at home.

DECYP & DPS School Values

Our values represent the foundation of our Department’s culture
and must guide us in all that we do.
They have been decided by us, and we are all responsible
for embedding them in our ways of working.
