Congratulations

Congratulations to Jaxon Dare who has been selected as the recipient of a Premier’s Reading Challenge prize!  Jaxon tries his very best when reading and has made significant progress with his skill development.  Increasing student reading skills is a school and statewide priority and it is wonderful to see students develop in this important area.  I encourage all those at home to listen to their child read just a few minutes each day, or to read to children a few minutes a day to help develop the skills of reading.

Swimming and Water Safety Program

Our Swimming and Water Safety program for primary and Kinder students commenced this week.  Mr Forward and class teachers have reported that our students have displayed exemplary behaviour whilst at the pool.  Many students have made great gains in their swimming skills.  Thank you to parents for supporting this program from home by ensuring swimmers and towels are ready to go each morning, and by providing extra food and drinks when needed.

Toilet safety

A reminder that no adults are to use the student toilets at school.  This is a safety requirement and an important part of our student safeguarding risk management plan.  If you require the use of a toilet whilst on school grounds, adult toilets are located in the main foyer of our school.  If adults, other than members of staff are seen in the toilets, please let a member of staff know immediately.  Our students are aware of this also and will inform a member of staff if they see an adult in the student toilets.

Carpark changes

In the interest of student safety, we will be installing a chain across the Stewart Street staff carpark entrance.  This is an effort to to limit car movement when students are arriving and departing the school grounds.   The work will commence during the upcoming school holidays.  Our garden bed will be altered to create a pedestrian access point beside the brick pillar for those entering the school grounds on foot.  The chain will be up from 8:00 – 9:30 and again from 2:00 – 3:30.  Parents are of course most welcome to park in the carpark to collect students for appointments or if they are unwell during the school day.  If you require the use of the disability carpark close to the office, please phone the office as we can drop the chain remotely from office and welcome you in.  We will monitor this change and may need to make further changes as we get used to the new system in time.  Thank you for your support in working with us to keep our young people as safe as we can.

We have recently been made aware that a young person in our school community is highly sensitive to hazelnuts and has had significant adverse health reaction to them

As you would be aware, Nutella is made from hazelnuts.  I ask that as a school community we support this young person to feel safe at school by choosing to not include hazelnuts or hazelnut products in student lunch boxes if possible.

Thank you for your support.

MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR YOUR CHILD

Everyday Matters

Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most.

There are lots of things you can do to set your child up for success.

Why turning up matters

Every school day matters. Even just missing one day a fortnight can mean your child misses up to a year and half of their education, between Kindergarten and Year 12.

See what happens when your child misses just…

2025 CBCA Book Week theme announcement

Children's Book Week turns 80 in 2025

Children’s Book Week is The CBCA’s key highlight national event of the year. This year’s celebration will run from Saturday 16 to Saturday 23 August.

The 2025 theme is Book an Adventure!

Our feature artist for the year, Jess McGeachin, has brilliantly captured this adventurous spirit in his artwork, which features a whimsical map filled with imaginary characters. Jess’ illustration invites young readers to embark on fantastical journeys, inspiring them to travel through the worlds that books open up. As an award-winning Australian picture book illustrator, Jess’ work encourages children to imagine, explore, and create their own adventures.

2025 is also a milestone year celebrating 80 years of Children’s Book Week! For 8 decades, CBCA has been dedicated to inspiring young minds to journey through the countless worlds that books offer. Jess’ imaginative artwork reflects this mission perfectly, encouraging children to set off on adventures through time, lands, and imagination. We look forward to continuing this mission for the next 80 years and beyond!

Saturday Morning Roster Games – Update

We’ll be returning to post-game handshakes instead of elbow bumps.

This decision comes after a few issues with the physicality around elbow bumps, and we believe handshakes are a better way to promote good sportsmanship in a more respectful manner.

Coaches – please supervise the handshakes to help ensure they’re done properly and in the right spirit.

Also, a quick reminder:
If any problems arise during a game, please don’t wait until the end to bring them up. Find a committee member on the day so we can address things quickly.

Thanks as always for your support, and here’s to a great rest of the season!
