A Message from the Principal
INTER-PRIMARY ATHLETICS
Both the 3/4 and 5/6 inter-primary athletic days were held this week at the Penguin sport centre. It was wonderful to hear reports of excellent behaviour, students giving their best effort and of course having lots of fun! Well done to all who participated in events, and a well done to all who achieved a personal best. A big congratulations to Mateo and Michelle who were superfast in their heats and made the twilight finals in Penguin, well done! Thank you to all staff and parents involved for supporting our athletic team prior to and on the day.
POP UP CRICKET BLAST
Pop-Up Cricket Blast commenced this week on our school oval after school. This will run for 3 more weeks, weather permitting. We had a great turn out of students to participate and families to watch. Thank you, Mr Forward for organising this for our families.
PROGRESS REPORTS
Student Progress reports will be sent home at the end of week 7. These reports are a short report aimed to provide parents with information on how their child has settled in to the school year. As always, parents/carers are most welcome to chat with class teachers at any time of the year. Written reports are one part of communicating to families the progress of their child/ren.
NAPLAN TESTING
NAPLAN testing will commence this coming Wednesday for students in grade 3 and 5. All students across Australia in these grades participate in NAPLAN. This is an opportunity for students to try their very best, but it is not something to be worried or stressed about at all. Students have been participating in activities in class in the weeks prior to NAPLAN to help them feel more comfortable with the process.
I hope you all have an enjoyable long weekend!
Principal

NEW EDSMART ABSENTEE MESSAGING SERVICE STARTED ON MON 26 FEB 2024
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is using a new product for messaging, EdSmart, which is being rolled out in stages during Term 1 2024. EdSmart will be used for messaging and will be mandatory state-wide. EdSmart will be replacing MGM Wireless (and any other messaging products).
EdSmart is an Australian communication and workflow platform trusted by hundreds of schools to improve communication in the school community. EdSmart is a cloud-based software that enables schools to handle all communication with parents/guardians electronically. It will mainly be used to manage absences and other messaging for phase one of the project.
Here's how it will work for absentee notifications and responses:
You will be sent an email or SMS notification with a link to click which opens a secure web page version of an absentee response form. Complete the form and submit. These links can be accessed on your phone, tablet or computer at your convenience.
Privacy & Data Security
EdSmart is ISO/IEC 27001:2013 accredited, which refers specifically to the requirements for establishing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the context of an organisation.
All of the data you submit in the Forms is held in a secure database only accessible to authorised DECYP, school staff and EdSmart personnel.

Where possible female students should avoid wearing stocking or tights on swimming days as these can be very difficult and time consuming to put on.
Swimming caps are compulsory for both boys and girls due to loose hair being caught in the pool filtration system.
Swimming caps can be bought from the school office for $2. These must be paid for before the start of the program.
