Todd_Nichole.jpgA Message from the Principal

NAPLAN

Thank you to parent and families/friends who have supported and encouraged our student in Grade 3 & 5 who have participated in NAPLAN testing over the last 2 weeks.  Whilst there has been some frustrating aspects with the testing due to problems connecting online, the students coped very well with the need to adjust and tried their best.

ATHLETIC CARNIVAL

With the impending birth of Mr Forward’s first baby, we have decided to postpone the school athletic carnival until 4th term.  This will also give more time for the kinder students to settle into school and have some visits to our school oval before running in their race.

SWIMMING & WATER SAFETY PROGRAM

Our early childhood Swimming and Water Safety program has gone very well this week.  Mr Forward has spoken to me each day after the sessions and reported how well our students listened to their instructors and how respectful and polite our students were.  I was very pleased to hear this and proud of our students.  I know this program takes a toll with increased tiredness levels of our young people, and I thank the families at home, and the staff for supporting this very important program.  As I have mentioned before, this program is fully funded by the school, as is the grade 6 program later in the year.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

As we work our way towards Easter, the end of term will not be far away.  This means ¼ of the school year has nearly passed already!  Our attendance rate overall is 91%.  This is great and means that the majority of our students are at school every day. I encourage families to make sure your child goes to school, every day.  Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their friends, teachers and other adults. School is where bright futures can start and where students can benefit the most. Of course, there are times when your child is away due to illness or other circumstances.  Please make sure the office is contacted to be made aware of why your child is away so we can record this in our system as we are required to do so by law.

NEW EDSMART ABSENTEE MESSAGING SERVICE STARTED ON MON 26 FEB 2024

The Department for Education, Children and Young People is using a new product for messaging, EdSmart, which is being rolled out in stages during Term 1 2024. EdSmart will be used for messaging and will be mandatory state-wide. EdSmart will be replacing MGM Wireless (and any other messaging products).

EdSmart is an Australian communication and workflow platform trusted by hundreds of schools to improve communication in the school community. EdSmart is a cloud-based software that enables schools to handle all communication with parents/guardians electronically. It will mainly be used to manage absences and other messaging for phase one of the project.

Here's how it will work for absentee notifications and responses:

You will be sent an email or SMS notification with a link to click which opens a secure web page version of an absentee response form. Complete the form and submit. These links can be accessed on your phone, tablet or computer at your convenience.

Privacy & Data Security

EdSmart is ISO/IEC 27001:2013 accredited, which refers specifically to the requirements for establishing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the context of an organisation.

All of the data you submit in the Forms is held in a secure database only accessible to authorised DECYP, school staff and EdSmart personnel.

For further information – visit the Department’s website -  Communicating with your child's school - Department for Education, Children and Young People (decyp.tas.gov.au)
