Terrapin Puppet Show

Our school was fortunate this week to host a performance of Goldfish presented by the Terrapin Puppet Theatre.  The show was highly entertaining with a message of hope and resilience threaded through the funny yet serious story that unfolded.  Some excellent questions were asked of the puppeteers from our students at the end of the show which were answered along with some explanations of how the puppets are created.

Car Park

As you may have seen, the chain on the school driveway entrance has arrived this week and has been used several times as a trial.  The chain will be up during the busy parts of the day to reduce traffic entering the school grounds when students are moving to and from school. We are waiting for a camera to arrive and be installed which will detect staff car registration plates.  Once installation has been completed the chain will be used each day.

Important parent/adult information

A reminder to parents and adults within our wider school community that only their own children are to be touched – eg holding hands, collected from school, given rides home from school or provided food at school.  Please also do not address another child’s inappropriate behaviour with them at school.  If assistance is required regarding inappropriate behaviour please speak to a member of staff.  If there are to be arrangements made for after school play, please ensure that all parents are aware of the arrangements to prevent unnecessary worry.

School Oval

Thank you to our students, and the wider school community for your understanding of the reduced oval capacity whilst we have had it upgraded.  Students have had a wonderful time playing on it this week, it is looking much healthier than it was with lots of new grass making it very soft!  We look forward to using it for our school athletic carnival later in the term.

Devonport High School Transition

Our grade 6 students attending DHS will start the first of their 4 transition afternoons on Tuesday.  These sessions are important steps in helping students to develop new connections with both staff and students as they prepare to change schools next year.

Kind regards

Ms Nichole Todd

CONNECTION

This fortnight we have the School Value of COURAGE - Accepting challenges and embracing opportunities.  As our focus we discuss in individual class groups and across the school as a whole, both students and staff.

Each fortnight this Term we will let you know what our focus is, you may wish to discuss this with your child/ren at home.

On Thursday, staff took on the Year 5/6 students in a game of volleyball. With Ms Todd coming out of volleyball retirement to captain the staff team with her amazing skills, it was a close and competitive match! The students put up a fantastic fight, but the staff just managed to hold on for the win!

Big thanks to Ms Todd, Mr Metske, Mr Jago, Mitch, and Tina for playing on our staff team, and to Mr Forward for organising and umpiring. A special shout-out to the enthusiastic student cheer squad for bringing the energy!

Staff are now resting up and getting ready for the next challenge—Touch Football in a few weeks!

Devonport schools are working together for every child to develop language and communication skills, for a strong start to learning and life. Through a shared project, we are focusing on building language skills from birth, working closely with families to support every child’s talking and communication skills.

Let’s Get Talking is a project in Devonport to help children aged 0-5 develop oral language skills.

Christmas_Wonderland_Jpg.jpg

What it is:

A complete Christmas experience for families, running from November 8 – December 1 at a beautiful old church in Forth.

It includes reindeer food making, Christmas music, a snow machine, lollipops from Santa, and of course, beautiful family photos they'll treasure for years to come.

This has become a cherished tradition for many local families, and with over 280 families already booked in, I thought your school community might love to know about the final sessions still available.

Investment: $99
Sessions available: Both Santa and non-Santa options
