EASTER FUN & UPCOMING HOLIDAYS

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break with family and friends and enjoyed the good weather we had.  Students arrived back at school with stories of Easter egg hunts and the Easter bunny finding them as well as eating yummy chocolate eggs.  Next week is our last week of school for term 1, then we will have a break of 2 weeks on holidays.

DEVONPORT MEN'S PROBUS CLUB - THANK YOU

This week our in our assembly we had a special guest join us.
Jon Holmes from the Devonport Men’s Probus Club attended to give us some ANZAC Day books that were purchased for us by the organisation.  This was a very generous gesture and a very welcome donation.  On behalf of the school, I would like to thank Jon and the Devonport Men’s Probus Club for the books and I am sure the students will put them to good use reading them and using them to further their understandings of the importance of commemorating our ANZACs.

SRC - LIBRARY FUNDRAISER

The SRC will hold a sausage sizzle next week to raise money for some more fiction books in our school library.  Whilst we do have some school funds to use it is always great to have more money to spend!  Thank you to our families for supporting this cause and to the SRC for being active in your student leadership roles to make our school a better place.

KINDER - YEAR 2 HOME READING SURVEY

Next term we intend on offering sessions to families on ways to help children to improve their reading skills outside of school.  We would very much like to try and fit with the needs of families, therefore a survey has been sent out via our app to ask what time would best suit families to attend.  We want these session to be fun, easy going, interactive and not stressful at all!  Reading is a skill that opens many doors in life, please join us as we work together to support our young people.

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION AGM

The School Association AGM was held in late March, thank you to those who attended.  I am very pleased to say this year we have a full compliment of parent members. The School Association committee members for 2024 are as follows:

Parent representatives: Genevieve Paine (Chairperson), Robyn Smith (Vice-Chairperson), Melissa Berwick (Secretary), Asha West and Linda Petersen

Staff representatives: Nichole Todd, Danee Gannon and Heather Parker

Community representative: Rod Viney

Please feel free to talk to any members of the SA committee as you see them about school.  I very much thank the members for giving up their time to assist with the running of the school.

APRAXIA_AWARENESS_DAY_logo_information.jpg

Have you heard of Childhood Apraxia of Speech?

May is Apraxia Awareness Month. May 14th is the internationally recognised, Apraxia Awareness Day.

Several children on the NW Coast are living with Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a lifelong motor speech disorder that affects 1-2 in 1000 children. Children with apraxia know what they want to say, but when they go to speak, they have difficulty moving their tongue, lips and jaw as well as turning their voice on and off to speak. This makes them hard to understand and is frustrating. Children with apraxia need to attend speech therapy up to 4 times a week.

This year, for the first time in Tasmania, there are several landmarks that will light up BLUE on May 14th which you can visit:

Paranaple Centre, Devonport

Waratah-Wynyard council offices, Wynyard

Burnie council offices, Burnie

Leven Bridge, Ulverstone

Town Hall, Launceston

Tasman Bridge, Hobart
