SRC Fundraiser

Todd_Nichole.jpg

Thank you, students and families, for supporting the endeavours of our SRC as they fund raise for the Devonport Dog’s Home.  The box in the front foyer is getting full of donations and the out of uniform day today raised $278.50 to be put towards the cause.  We will be collecting donations all next week too so please consider buying a little donation to add to the collection.

Christmas Panel

IMG_2262.jpgOnce again, this year our school has a beautiful Christmas panel to add to the Christmas tree in the mall.  Class 1/2 Marshall did a wonderful job of creating the panel this year, thank you for your hard work!  Next week the class, accompanied by Prep/1B, will be walking down to the mall to view their creativity now that it is combined with others on the tree.

Respectful Behaviour

In a school environment there are many students from varied backgrounds interacting with each other on a daily basis.  As in all communities of people, from time-to-time differences can cause conflict.  This may be in the form of mean words said, or actions that are unkind.  It is the job of school staff to work through these times with students and if needed we may call home to talk with parents.  Unless there is immediate physical danger, it is not the role of parents who are on site for drop off or pick up of students to speak with other students about their behaviour.  If you witness any unkind or inappropriate behaviours whilst on school grounds, please speak to a staff member who will follow this up with the those involved.  Parents are reminded that school staff do not commence duty supervision until the school day starts at 8:40am.  Until then, it is the responsibility of parents to supervise their children if onsite before the school doors open at 8:40am.

Transition

As 2024 rapidly draws to an end, we are in full swing for our preparations for 2025. Our year 6 students have commenced their transition to high school afternoon sessions and will soon have their full day of orientation.  Next week, we will start the school transition for all classes.  We have 3 short sessions planned over the next 2 weeks where students will meet their teacher for next year to help ease worries over the holiday break.  Some students also have additional visits and support in preparation for the change in 2025.

This week our gym was used by the North West Support School to hold their end of year assembly.  This has occurred over the past few years and we love having them visit us!  As we have a buddy link with the school, 6 of our students joined their buddies in the final event of the assembly which was the signing choir performing their version of ‘You’re the Voice’.  I was very fortunate to witness the performance, it was so heartwarming!   Well done to all and to our students; Zac, Sam, Leah, Ella-Rose, Isabella and Demi in particular who were amazing!

A big thank you to our LIFT committee for organising our literacy and numeracy games afternoon on Thursday last week.  It was a lovely warm afternoon and it was wonderful to see families come along, enjoy a sausage and spend time with their children playing educational and fun games.

Buddy classes 5/6 Maxfield and P/1 Maxfield teamed up this week to engage in a data and graphing task.

We are lucky to have a dedicated crossing guard at our school.
Every day, they work hard to keep our students and families safe.

Let’s keep them safe by:
?  Slowing down, staying alert and being ready to stop safely when asked
?  Driving in a safe manner when travelling through a school zone
?  Always following their instructions

By respecting our crossing guard and the road rules, together we can create a safer journey for everyone to and from school!

To help families learn online at home, every family with children in kindergarten to year 10 are receiving a copy of Supporting online learning: a guide for families.

This guide provides families with information and advice about:

  • school communication apps, such as Canvas Parent
  • managing online privacy
  • social media readiness
  • effective online searching, and
  • spending time online as a family.

Families are the most important influence and support for children and young people. Learning online at home builds life skills to succeed in today’s digital world.

Guides were sent home on Thursday 21 November 2024.

For more digital skills and support, please email digitalskillsforfamilies@libraries.tas.gov.au

Disrespect in our schools is crossing the line. Simple as that.
If you have an issue to raise with a teacher or school staff member, remember to stop and think about how you communicate, including online. Remember there is a real person, just like you, on the other end of your post, comment or email.
Help us to eliminate disrespectful behaviour in our schools and create the best environment possible for our kids to learn.
Together we can delete disrespect.
GROWTH - aspiring to learn, and improving even when it is tough.

This fortnight we have the School Value of Connection as our focus, we discuss in individual class groups and across the school as a whole, both students and staff.

Each fortnight this Term we will let you know what our focus is, you may wish to discuss this with your child/ren at home.
