Welcome Back

Hello and welcome back to school for the 2025 school year!  I hope you had some great times over the summer holidays with family and friends.  We had a wonderful start to the year yesterday.  Students were eager to catch up with their friends and chat about holiday adventures and have settled back into school routines quickly.  The classrooms looked wonderful, so engaging and inviting and I thank all staff who did an incredible job over the last few days to organise the school to be ready for our community.

New Staff to DPS

We welcome a number of new adults and students to our school community this year.  Mrs Kylie Clinton will be working on the Prep-1 class with Mrs Ackerley, Miss Sephora Dent is joining us working in Mrs Neubacher’s class and Katie Ryan will be supporting students across the 5-6 classes.

Dixie our School Dog

dixie.PNGDixie our school dog (mini Cavoodle) will once again be at school this year four days a week.  Dixie is known and loved by many students/staff and she certainly helped welcome many of our students back to school this week - she has a little bald patch on her head from all the excited pats she received ?   Dixie is always on a lead and held by an adult.  She is based in the front office and goes out to visit students at recess and lunch as well as visiting classrooms and working with specific children to provide comfort.   Dixie is vet checked, vaccinated and wormed regularly.  The School Association has endorsed and support Dixie being at school to provide comfort to students and staff.  If you have any questions or concerns about Dixie being at school, please pop into the office to chat about this.

Staff Car Parks

The carpark remains staff parking only.  This is a matter of safety for our students, cars moving about when students are arriving and leaving school grounds is dangerous for our young people. I know this may be an inconvenience for some, however I am sure we all agree that our children deserve to be safe in their school grounds.

School Hours

A reminder that Devonport Primary School hours are from 8:40am through to 3:20pm. Doors open at 8:40am with staff commencing duty at this time.  Staff supervise students after school at the bus area on Stewart Street until 3:20pm.

It is important that parents do not bring children to school before school hours because there is no supervision of students at that time. Similarly, it is important parents either collect their children at the end of the school day or arrange for them to catch the bus home/make other collection arrangements so that students are not left unsupervised at the end of the school day.

Unsupervised students may engage in dangerous play or put themselves in dangerous locations such as car parks.

Parents are responsible for their child outside school hours unless they have accessed school-based childcare during these times at 1912.
